You’ve got the skills, the passion, and the desire to help students develop better executive function skills—but something keeps getting in your way.
Do you hesitate to charge what you’re worth?
Often feel like you’re not providing enough value?
Get stuck in a cycle of learning instead of doing?
These are all limiting beliefs, and they’re the biggest reason so many aspiring executive function coaches never build a sustainable business.
If you want to succeed, you have to get out of your own way.
Here is how you can do that 👇
Why Limiting Beliefs Are Sabotaging Your Coaching Success
I’ve trained hundreds of executive function coaches in the Executive Function Coaching Academy, and I’ve seen it time and time again—coaches who are more than capable of making an impact but are trapped by self-doubt.
Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft’ might win by fearing to attempt. - Shakespeare
Limiting beliefs don’t just hurt your confidence; they actively block you from:
building meaningful relationships with students,
and taking action.
They keep you playing small, second-guessing yourself, and overcomplicating what should be a simple process: helping students better manage their time, tasks, and emotions.
If you don’t address these beliefs, they will hold you back from making real change—not just for yourself but for the students who need you.
The 3 Most Common Limiting Beliefs That Are Sabotaging Your Coaching Business
“I Can’t Charge More Money”
Let’s be real—if you charge $50 an hour for executive function coaching, you’re running yourself into the ground.
A sustainable business requires pricing that reflects your time, expertise, and the transformation you provide.
And guess what?
People value what they pay for.
If your rate is too low, clients won’t take the work seriously. I’ve helped coaches confidently raise their rates from $50 to $100, from $100 to $200, and their businesses didn’t collapse—they thrived.
“I’m Not Giving Enough Value”
Many coaches spiral into over-delivering because they fear they aren’t offering enough.
They pile on extra resources, follow-ups, and unnecessary services, thinking more is better.
It’s not.
Overcompensating actually pushes clients away because it comes from insecurity, not confidence.
And then there are the serial learners—coaches who feel like they need one more course, certification, or degree before they can actually start coaching.
You need to start working with real students, get real results, and refine your approach as you go.
“I Have to Be Everything to Everyone”
New coaches often believe that niching down means turning clients away.
So, they try to coach elementary, high school, college, and adults, thinking that casting a wide net will bring in more work.
In reality, it makes you forgettable.
The most successful coaches own their niche.
When you specialize—whether it’s high school students struggling with procrastination or college students with ADHD—you become the go-to expert, and your business grows faster, not slower.
How to Dismantle Limiting Beliefs and Get Out of Your Own Way
These beliefs aren’t facts.
They’re just stories you’ve told yourself.
And like any bad habit, they can be broken. Here’s how:
Challenge the Thought
Write down the limiting belief. Then ask yourself: Is this actually true? Nine times out of ten, it’s not.
Reframe It
Instead of “I can’t charge more,” try:
“My time and expertise are valuable, and clients benefit when they invest in themselves.”
Instead of “I don’t know enough,” try:
“I know more than the student I’m coaching, and I’ll keep growing through experience.”
Take One Bold Action
The best way to prove a belief wrong is through action. Raise your rates today. Announce your niche.
Start taking imperfect action instead of waiting until you feel “ready.”
Use a Limiting Beliefs Worksheet
If you want to systematically rewrite these thoughts, grab my Limiting Beliefs Worksheet.

Bottom Line
I’ve coached hundreds of new executive function coaches through the Executive Function Coaching Certification course, and only one thing unites all the success stories: mindset.
The difference between struggling coaches and thriving ones isn’t just their strategy—it’s their ability to ditch the limiting beliefs and take action.
Start here:
Identify the limiting belief that’s holding you back
Challenge it by writing down why it’s not true
Reframe it into an empowering belief
Take one bold action to prove the new belief right
Repeat
Hope this helps 🤙

About Me

Hey! I'm Sean 👋
I'm a former public school special education teacher who realized that executive function skills are more important than knowing when George Washington crossed the Potomac.
Since then, I've made it my mission to teach anyone who will listen about how to develop these key life skills.
In 2020, I founded Executive Function Specialists to ensure all students with ADHD and Autism have access to high-quality online executive function coaching services. We offer online EF coaching and courses to help students and families.
Realizing I could only reach so many people through coaching, in 2021 I started the Executive Function Coaching Academy which trains schools, educators, and individuals to learn the key strategies to improve executive function skills for students.
In 2023, I co-founded of UpSkill Specialists, to provide neurodivergent adults with high-quality executive function coaching services.
When not pursuing my passions through work, I love spending time with my family, getting exercise, and expanding my brain through reading. You can connect with me on LinkedIn.
